Learning Experience
The UI Design program recommends using Adobe XD, Figma, or Sketch for vector graphics editing, prototyping, and wireframing. You can choose to work with the tool of your choice. However, you will be required to invest some independent study time (approximately 1-2 hours per week) towards familiarizing yourself with the tools you’ll use throughout the program and learning how to use them.
The program offers students a fully online and flexible learning experience. It is asynchronous, allowing students to determine their study hours based on their other commitments. All program material is accessible through the student’s personal account on the CareerFoundry platform. While there is an overall completion deadline, students have the freedom to organize their study schedule according to their availability and preferences.
Each lesson in the program comprises reading material, videos, tutorials, a quiz, and a practical task. These components provide a comprehensive learning experience and enable students to apply their knowledge directly through the practical task. The practical tasks completed by students contribute to the final projects and deliverables they will accomplish by the end of the program.
Although there is no final exam, students will receive support from a dedicated tutor and a professional mentor assigned based on their timezone. These experienced individuals evaluate student submissions using an internal rubric and provide detailed feedback on how to enhance their work and achieve approval.
Students will receive complimentary read-only access to CareerFoundry’s other career-change programs, including data analytics, web development, digital marketing, and UI design. Curriculum
The UI Design program is a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip complete beginners with the skills and knowledge needed to become job-ready UI designers. The program is divided into three parts: Intro to UI Design, UI Immersion, and a specialization course of your choice out of Animation for UI Designers, Frontend Development for Designers, and Voice User Interface Design.
INTRO TO UI DESIGN
Intro to UI Design is the first part of the UI Design program, which is designed for complete beginners who want to learn the fundamentals of UI design. The course consists of ten tasks leading up to one main project: recreating screens for a travel app.
Throughout the course, you will learn about design principles, typography, color theory, layout design, and user research. You will also have the opportunity to dive straight into practicing and refining core design skills with an industry-standard tool. You’ll start with basic layers and shapes before styling your designs with text, color, and advanced elements. By the end of the course, you will have a set of pixel-perfect mockups and an interactive prototype for your design portfolio. This course is perfect for those who are new to UI design or want to refresh their knowledge in this field.
UI IMMERSION
UI Immersion is the second part of the UI Design program, which is designed to provide you with an in-depth understanding of UI design principles and practices. In this course, you will learn how to design for mobile apps, web apps, and both iOS and Android operating systems. You will be introduced to design theory, principles, patterns, and mediums that are essential for creating effective user interfaces.
Throughout the course, you will work on a Student Project 1 where you’ll build a mobile app from scratch. You’ll start by developing wireframes of low-, mid-, and high-fidelity before finalizing the UI for your app with color, typography, icons, and emotive patterns. This process will help you understand how to create user interfaces that are visually appealing while also meeting user needs.
In addition to learning about design principles and practices, you’ll also gain hands-on experience using industry-standard tools such as Sketch or Figma. These tools will help you create high-quality designs that are pixel-perfect and ready for development.
By the end of this course, you will have a strong understanding of UI design principles and be able to create visually appealing and functional user interfaces that meet user needs.
